AAAS Resolution:
Commendation to Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev

The Board of Directors and the Council of the American Association for the Advancement of Science extend their highest commendation to President Ronald Reagan and General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev for their outstanding leadership in reducing the deployment of nuclear weapons as specified in the "Treaty between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the Elimination of their Intermediate-Range and Shorter Range Missiles," signed in Washington, D.C., December 8, 1987. This treaty is a critical first step of monumental importance in the cause of reducing the risk of nuclear war. We wish President Reagan and General Secretary Gorbachev success in their future efforts in this cause.

[Adopted by the AAAS Board of Directors and AAAS Council, February 15, 1988.]
