AAAS Resolution:
Training and Standards for Science Teachers

Whereas the demands of the 21^st century for a creative and educated citizenry in highly competitive world will be greater than ever before in our history; and

Whereas the challenges of educating an ethically and culturally diverse student body will be greatly increased; and

Whereas the responsibility for meeting these challenges will fall primarily on public school teachers; and

Whereas our teachers must meet high standards of preparation in all subjects taught;

Be it therefore resolved that the American Association for the Advancement of Science endorse the spirit and direction of the report, "A Nation Prepared: Teachers for the 21s Century," by the Task Force on Teaching as a Profession of the Carnegie Forum on Education and the Economy.
