AAAS Resolution:
National Medal of Science

Be it resolved that AAAS supports a legislative amendment to correct a limitation in P.L. 86-209, which in 1959 established a National Medal of Science to be awarded by the President of the United States to individuals by reason of their outstanding contribution to knowledge in the physical, biological, mathematical, or engineering sciences. The AAAS proposes that the law be amended to read "by reason of their outstanding contribution to knowledge in the physical, biological, mathematical, engineering, behavioral, and social sciences" (underlined words to be added).

[Adopted by the AAAS Council, January 7, 1979.]
