AAAS Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award
The AAAS Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award, which consists of $2,500 and a plaque, was established in 1981 to honor scientists and engineers whose exemplary actions, often taken at significant personal cost, have served to foster scientific freedom and responsibility. Eligible nominees are scientists and engineers who have acted to protect the public's health, safety, or welfare; or to focus public attention on potentially serious impacts of science and technology on society by their responsible participation in public policy debates; or to establish important new precedents in social responsibility or in defending the professional freedom of scientists and engineers.
