Years covered: 1958-1974
Linear feet: 2.5

Established in 1958 to address the appropriate role of science in public affairs during the period when U.S. economic, political, and social decision-making processes were becoming more dependent on scientific expertise. The committee, whose chairs included biologist Barry Commoner and anthropologist Margaret Mead, issued reports on science and war, science and race, scientific integrity, and secrecy in science. The committee was disbanded in 1974.
