During the early 1980s, several popular science magazines emerged. AAAS's entry into the genre, Science 80/86,, achieved a circulation of nearly 700,000 and received numerous awards, including three National Magazine Awards. However, the magazine fell victim to economics and the Association sold it to Time, Inc. in 1986. The administrative and business records for the magazine include advertising, circulation, budget reports, and promotionals.
