Western Hemisphere Cooperation
Years covered: 1957-1989
Linear feet: 32.5

At the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Mexico City in 1973, a federation of seventeen nations was founded to promote scientific cooperation in the Americas. In 1974, this Interciencia Association (IA) was chartered in Venezuela. IA publishes a trilingual scientific journal, Interciencia. These records document much of AAAS's early interest in international cooperation and its service as the executive secretariat for the IA, a role it held from 1975 to 1993.
